Lauder was the Senior Corporate Vice President of the Estée Lauder Companies and a member of the board of overseers at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She was known for her outstanding philanthropic contributions, especially to the cause of breast cancer for which she co-developed the Pink Ribbon, one of the most recognized symbols in the world. She also helped found the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Thanks to Evelyn’s commitment and relentless support of this cause, the Estée Lauder Companies estimated that the firm’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign had raised over $335 million towards research and distributed 80 million pink ribbons. The crew of What is Philanthropy? is saddened by her passing, and we feel honored and privileged to have her in the film and have had the wonderful opportunity to speak to her in the former office of Estée Lauder.
